Green Austin Texas

Interested in Buying, Building or Retrofitting to GREEN in the Austin TX Metro Area?

Austin, Texas is considered a very GREEN city, and for good reason.

Austin, Texas is incredibly green. For the most current information on this look at the City of Austin’s Office of Sustainability. According to the Austin American Statesman of May 10, 2009, almost one in four new homes in Austin is green.  Austin Energy’s Green Building program is so successful that others were modeled after it. Bicycle riders, Farmer’s Markets, CSA’s, Eat Local, organic foods, home rain catchment, solar energy, recycling and green conscious people abound.  As of June 1st, 2009, Energy Conservation Audits are required for homes sold in Austin. The 2009 Austin Home Builders Association Parade of Homes at the green 711 acre Mueller redevelopment. All homes on the tour were Five Star Green and every home at Mueller is required to be at least 3 star rated. Commercial buildings at Mueller also must be green. The annual Cool House Tour produced by the Texas Solar Energy Society and sponsored by Central Market and Meridian Energy is a great event. Homes are featured on the Cool House Tour for their design for the Austin climate, use of solar, water conservation, healthy construction materials and sustainability. Austin is also home to the American Rainwater Catchment Systems Association (ARCSA) located at 823 Congress Avenue. There are many homes in the Austin area that are total rainwater collection meaning no well or city water but exclusive rainwater use for drinking, cooking, bathing, laundry, landscape, etc. 16401 Big Oak Circle – Leander TX 78641 is a greenbuilt home in Travis County just to the northwest of Austin Texas.

Betty Saenz EcoBroker®

EcoBroker® is a program designed for Real Estate professionals who care about our earth’s environment and want to serve likeminded “green” people with their Real Estate needs. EcoBrokers® undergo extensive training in the fields of energy as well as environmental issues. These days, it is popular to be “green” so all kinds of people are jumping on the bandwagon, greenwashing by calling everything “green” and or “sustainable”. EcoBrokers® are trained to sort through “greenwashing” and determine what the true “green” features are of properties. I am proud to have earned my EcoBroker® Certification as someone who is environmentally responsible and cares about sustainability issues. I recycle, drive a recycled hybrid car, organic garden, am a TOFGA member (Texas Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association), compost, my yard is a NWF Certified Wildlife Habitat and I love to help people live and learn, buy or sell GREEN! Want a well-built house that’s environmentally sound and offers low utility bills? A home that is kind to the wallet, good for the body, comforting to the soul, and gentle to the earth for decades to come? I am experienced in helping people with GREEN homes. I want you to also consider Energy Efficiency & Water Conservation because of the money that can save you in your monthy budget (ROI or Return On Investment). For example, having an old air conditioning system with a low SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Rating) and lack of good , sufficient insulation, a radient barrier, or other energy conserving measures can cause HIGH electric bills. Having a HUGE lawn to keep watered in a drought year can be EXPENSIVE. Look for smaller lawns or grasses or other landscaping designs that use less water. Call me, Betty Saenz at (512) 785-5050 or e-mail me and let me help you buy, build or sell a GREEN Home.
